Sometimes I have a lot of trouble writing stuff for shows that I really enjoyed but don’t feel too strongly about. It kind of toes the line between the various styles of writing I favor and really leaves me in a tough spot. Fortunately, this isn’t one of those times. It might be the utter shit that was the rest of the winter 2025 season, but this was easily my favorite of the bunch. It was a huge brain-off, stupid fun kind of show but sometimes you gotta appreciate that.

By the way, this show might as well require you to have some familiarity with power rangers to enjoy. It’s filled with jokes about power rangers, jokes that make fun of power rangers’ tropes, jokes that are just power rangers’ moments but it’s funny cause it’s in a fantasy environment. But as a person who did in fact watch a decent amount of power rangers back in the day, I liked it a lot. I could feel myself being transported back to my youth (I’m not old!) as the mighty red ranger want through his transformation sequence and the explosion effect behind him accidentally blew up his new wizard friend.

I do have to lay at least some criticism on the show for slipping a bit on the pacing in the middle though. There were a few episodes where they introduced a new character that I originally thought would be a villain but maybe isn’t a villain and I was really lost on what was supposed to be the point of it all. They did manage to course correct fast enough back to the dumb fun though so I’m willing to give it a pass. Especially when there were so few options for shows that I enjoyed this winter.
