If you liked the Haruhi Suzumiya series at all, then you should watch this movie. Kyon finds himself in a reality where the supernatural does not exist and Haruhi is seemingly nowhere to be found. While he often complains about Haruhi’s antics, Kyon quickly turns to trying to find a way back to what he knows. It is perhaps reinforcing the idea seen throughout the show that no matter what Kyon will return to Haruhi and stand alongside her. However, while the Sigh arc does this by pushing Kyon to a breaking point, here we see him faced with the prospect of never having met Haruhi and what that world looks like. The adventure to return to the world and people is a great culmination of a few things, calling back to a few other events that we’ve seen covered before in the show, although obviously with some changes. We do also get some new information that we didn’t have before, so don’t think it’s just all about things that we already knew. While the season 2 additions to the show made me have doubts about the series as a whole, this restored my feelings and makes me wish there was more. If I have one complaint, it’s that it is quite long at over 2 1/2 hours.
