Girl Power Meets Glitter and Sparkles in this Re-Imagination of She Ra

I’m a sucker for a good girl power style show and this hits the sweet spot for me. Adora is thrown into a new and exciting world after realizing the evil horde is evil (I know shocker). Armed with a special sword that makes her basically the Avatar, and the two best side characters a show has had in recent years, she sets out to bring balance to the force, I mean Etheria.

The main story follows the trio of Adora, Bow and Glimmer as they save various kingdoms from Adora’s childhood friend Catra, her surrogate mother Shadow Weaver and the ever present Hordak. After many hijinks and action packed adventures we discover Hordak isn’t even the big bad, his brother Jeff Bezos is far worse (Bezos is actually Horde Prime, but he insists on everyone calling prime and its funny to imagine he is actually running Amazon Prime instead of the Horde).

Throughout all the adventures we come to love the multitude of characters and the world around them. Mermista, Seahawk, Entrapta, Perfuma and Scorpia are just some of the characters that you’ll grow to love while watching the show, and they aren’t even the main focus in most episodes!

The star of the show is often Catra. As a really misunderstood child she ends up forcing her way to the top of the Evil Horde. By the end of the first season she seems to have completely gained the trust of the villains and is primed to lead them to victory, but like everything in her life it continuously blows up in her face.

Adora and Catra face off many times throughout the show and a common theme of there past friendship driving them to struggle against each other leaves you wanting to see more, but trust me the payoff is worth the wait!

We also get to see the growth and friendship between Bow and Glimmer as Glimmer learns to deal with her role as both She Ra’s best friend and the air to her own throne in Bright Moon. Glimmer is probably the best side character I can think of for someone like Adora and Bow is the perfect foil as the funny but trustworthy guy who is always ready for whatever is coming.

I could go on and on about the characters in this show, but that would be a disservice to you.

Go watch the show for yourself and find out just how good She Ra and the Princess of Power is.

Verdict

★★★★1/2

It’s incredible how well done this show is considering it is a rethought plot of a show long forgotten. Fun characters and an interesting story are just the tip of the iceberg for She Ra and the Princess of Power in what is damn near a perfect show.
