Do you ever just watch a show and have no fucking clue why you’re enjoying it? Eh, enjoying it’s the wrong way to put it. I don’t think I enjoyed it in the same way I enjoy playing my 31st favorite game or watching a show that’s actually decent. It’s more like I’m just sitting there watching each episode, showing up each week to just lull myself into a trance as funny pictures move on the screen for 25ish minutes. It’s the sweet spot between boring, awful, and decent where this show lies. The shadowy void that holds things that I can’t say I really liked, but at the same time have now watched two full seasons of it.

So yeah, this is the second season of SG:SC and despite watching the first season I can honestly say that I have no idea what is going on now or what was going on before we returned to this strange land. Someone will have to check me on this, but I don’t think it really matters either. SS:GG clearly identifies itself as an isekai by the several characters that I feel like I was supposed to know something about getting isekai’d rather immediately. It also appears to be some sort of fantasy land with magic and monsters and knights and people with very bright colored hair. I won’t pretend to understand the rules of this world, but I think there was some deal with certain characters having to learn the language? I swear there was some kind of weird effect going on at some point where the fantasy language speaking folks had overlapping audio for their fantasy language and normal ass Japanese that is commonly seen in most anime. I can’t be sure though. At the very least I was pretty sure I was just having audio issues at the time.

I’ve gotten a bit off track here, but it’s helped me realize that I think I appreciated CS:GS much in the same way that some people appreciate their soap operas. It’s clearly not good but it’s very unnecessarily dramatic and has just enough plot to keep me invested. SG:CS also boasts some of the worst action scene animation I’ve ever seen. Sure, you’ve got your standard poorly animated CG characters fighting it out but what really sells it for me is the way characters just fly across the screen much in the way the still image would slide across your beautifully animated PowerPoint slide. It’s truly a work of art.

I know I just went on basically bashing the whole show but I’m serious when I say I don’t want it to change. Everyone can use a good brain off show every once in a while, and, though I’m sure I’ll have no recollection of the events of this season by the time the next one comes out, I find myself at least somewhat anticipating season 3 of GG:SS:CC:SS. Or maybe I’m just anticipating a return to the trance like state this show puts me in?
