Secrets of the Silent Witch

The summer 2025 season of anime saw at least a couple of my light novels get adaptations and while one was so “meh” that it not only will not be getting a review but it also made me doubt my enjoyment of the series, the other is the subject of the current review and fared a bit better.

“Secrets of the Silent Witch” has been one of my favorite light novels as of late and I was quite pleased to find its anime adaptation to be high quality and faithful to the original work. It’s a mix between a mystery show and just a feel good fantasy show as Monica, the titular silent witch, goes undercover in a fancy school to protect the prince from assassination. There’s plenty of intrigue and depth to the story, but also a lot devoted to telling the tale of a shy girl learning how to make friends. Throw in a bit of comedy and I think it makes for a good watch. Monica herself is a total goof and has some funny moments but my favorites come from her fellow conspirator, Isabella. As part of helping with the undercover operations, she puts in a hilariously sinister villainess act only to turn around and dream about being besties with Monica in private.

I guess the only complaint I had with the adaptation is they really went out of their way to have Monica pose with her finger over her lips like the cover of the first light novel. I thought it looked kinda forced but I’m not gonna drag down a good show for a couple shit moments. Well, uh, not this time anyways.
