Gamers. Uh, Animers. My good friends. Nick. As the spring comes to an end I think only of you and all of the memories we shared together. It sometimes feels like the spring was so good it lasted 2 to 3 weeks longer than it normally does. But, alas, all things must come to an end, and it is exactly today, not any other day 2 to 3 weeks ago, that spring has officially come to an end. So yeah, I’m late again. I do hope to someday win big on a bank error and put all of my focus into being timelier with these things, but it is what it is for now. Being late has never stopped me in the past and it sure won’t stop me from taking a good look at the upcoming summer season. So many shows to harshly judge beforehand. Even more that are ripe for overly lofty expectations to be placed on. What a thrilling time it is!
The (Hopefully) Good
Behold! The shows this season that are 100%, for sure, definitely going to be huge hits and in no way disappoint anyone ever.

Kaiju No.8 and Dan Da Dan both make their returns, making this already a very promising season for fans of action and monsters. I have to believe that there is no way these two could shit the bed, but I’ve been wrong before. Either way I’ll certainly be watching them through. Next up is City. Now, for those of you who are unaware, Nichijou is my favorite anime ever, so you have to imagine that my expectations for a new show that’s an adaptation from the same creator would be pretty high, right? I mean, I guess so? I honestly don’t know much about what to expect from this so I’m not looking for it to be my new favorite, but I will be happily watching along the whole time. The last one here is a bit interesting. Not because the show is particularly out there, but because it’s the follow up to a movie (maybe 2 movies?) that was a follow up to a show that I liked. I assume (boldly, I know), that I probably need to have watched the movie(s) to know exactly what’s going on, but I’m not going to do that. For reasons. So yeah, I don’t know how this will work but I liked the first show so I’m burdening this one hard and demanding that it works great as a standalone show. Even though it’s not a standalone show.
The (Oh My God, Why Are They Still Doing This) Bad
They’re back! And somehow (probably) even worse than ever. Some real shitter shows that just refuse to die much to my displeasure. Oh, and also a show or two that I’m just genuinely surprised got a second season.

The Rising of the Shield Hero getting another season easily hits the mark of a surprise for me. I guess they’ve been somewhat steadily rolling them out, but, last I watched (maybe like a quarter way though season 2 lol), the quality had dropped a bunch. I can’t imagine it’s gotten better, and I haven’t even heard about a new LN chapter in so long that I assumed it was abandoned. I might take a look just to see how stinky it is now but that’s it. It might not look like it, but those two overly colorful shows in the middle are running a tight race for my least favorite rom-coms I’ve ever forced down my throat. Both have some of the worst plots humans are capable of coming up with and, while I’m not too surprised they are continuing, I will be quietly giving them the death stare for the duration of this season. Thats all I’m saying on them. I either stop myself now or I’ll end up writing 5 whole paragraphs just to take out my anger. OK, OK, the next one is not necessarily bad, but it is incredibly stupid of a concept so I’m putting it here. I watched like 3 episodes of the first season of the vending machine anime and, intentionally or not, it was really funny. So I plan to watch about 3 more episodes and maybe write about it a bit.
The Why the Hell Are Half the Light Novels I Read Getting Adaptations this Season
It’s not actually half. I keep a lot of different light novels in my line up to cover my extended reading binges that come up occasionally.

This might be the new record for LNs that I read that getting an adaptation in a single season. Are they the good ones though? Mostly. I think. Secrets of the Silent Witch is a really solid story with fun characters and not much potential for, uh, “questionable moments”. The other two have slightly more potential for said moments. That one in the middle has a few characters that are almost intolerable (mostly the girl who takes up the most space on the cover there) but I’ve been getting carried along in the story by them not actually showing up all too often (the dude with the book is the actual main character). Apocalypse Bringer Mynoghra is just generally a bit weirder but that’s pretty much it for my concerns. Clearly, I’m a bit cautions to outright recommend the second two, but I still think they’re worth a try.
Am I Actually Going to Watch All of These?
No. I will watch some of them. And also, some other ones that I didn’t mention here. It should be a solid season though; I’m looking forward to getting into it.
