My Happy Marriage

Imagine if power trip fantasy characters were introduced to your more traditional home style romcom. Well that is pretty much what you get here with My Happy Marriage. Miyo embarks on a new life journey leaving her abusive family to live with Kudou, who is essentially this world’s Satoru Gojo and is pretty much the strongest (aside from one or two spoiler characters).

My Happy Marriage blends together Kudou’s job beats as a military man saving people from Grotesqueries and Miyo learning to come into her own as a young woman. She learns a lot about herself and her own wants and desires as she lives with Kudou and comes out of the shell her abusive family put her in. Without getting too much into the spoilery details, the show really hits its stride late season 1 into early season 2.

The addition of more story plot points and fun character arcs really brings this show together and makes it a super enjoyable watch. Kudou and Miyo are the perfect couple and their story is a delight from start to finish. While there are heavier moments in the show, I think it is at its best during the light fun parts. Seeing Kudou and Miyo interact as awkward young adults is heartwarming and sweet in a way most romcoms struggle to capture.

Season 2 just ended, and I am ready for more! Also… When is the actual marriage gonna happen?

Verdict

★★★★

As a certified enjoyer of romcoms now, I am pleased to say this one was quite good. Season 1 did such a good job of diving into the world and the characters that you easily become attached to the main crew, and then that is parlayed beautifully into the story beats of season 2. Really excited for the next season/movie/whatever it is they just announced coming out soon
