I’m just so fucking confused by this show. It’s your typical dark fantasy action show with all the blood and gore and edgy characters you’d expect from such a prestigious genre but it feels like they totally missed the mark on what people are looking for in that kind of thing. I hope I’m not alone in this thought, but I expect any dark fantasy action show with all the blood and gore and partial nudity to be very action forward. Like to the point where it feels like the only thing they cared about was having sick as fuck animations for their bad ass action scenes. But apparently Ubel Blatt missed the memo cause half the damn action scenes had those peak, Seirei Gensouki style, still image sliding across the background type animations that really make you feel like you’ve hit the bottom of the barrel with your entertainment.
Now I’m willing to forgive some slips of the animator’s hand sometimes so that wasn’t enough to leave me in the utter state of befuddlement that I found myself. It was the combination of the shit action scenes with some honestly decent characters, writing, and storytelling that made the show somewhat redeemable. They just fucking got it backwards. Instead of following the dark fantasy action show with all the blood and gore and disgustingly evil villains framework they accidentally picked up the one for shitty fantasy romance anime and rolled with it. I’m myself really hoping we get a second season if not for the closure to an interesting story than for another chance to observe this specimen of a show in action.
