I can’t remember if I wrote a review for the first season of this show and I don’t feel like checking so I’m just going to make this a review of all of it up to the end of the second season.
This show has a lot of ups and downs and swings in momentum. Some parts are really cool and really fun to watch, and others are just really dull. Then there is a third category of episodes that seem to be dedicated to blue balling you as hard as possible, waving all the cool things to come in your face and being like “oh it’s on its way, its coming soon.” Annoying fucks. So, this was another show I watched the dub for a second season as side content for the above reasons.
I’m gonna take a moment here to comment on the dub actually. It wasn’t bad exactly it just had some problems. The voices all lined up and lines were delivered well but, fuck, the translations/localizations were something else. I didn’t take enough detailed notes to go into it, but they laid on the “gamer terms” thick and I almost had to take a moment to stab myself in the gut while watching when they used the term “unalive.” So yeah, maybe stick with the sub for this one.
Other than the semi-extensive problems listed above, most of the content of the show was entertaining. It really tickles the gamer parts of your brain and felt pretty comparable to something like Log Horizon but with a low stakes, casual plot. That pretty much wraps things up I think but in my closing thoughts I would like to give the show a hearty “fuck you” for ending season two right in the middle of an arc, before the exciting part. I don’t care how fast the next season is coming out, that’s just a dog shit way of cutting up a show.
