“In a world where you can be anything, we should all strive to be a little more unique, Luz Noceda from The Owl House taught me that” would be an insane thing to say, however I do feel that no show has captured that feeling quite like The Owl House has in the last couple of years.
Coming of age stories are always tough to get right, but Disney has a reputation of doing just that. Moana, Amphibia, Inside Out 2, and many more shows and movies by Disney show runners have been a massive success, but I would stake the claim into The Owl House being the best.
Some of my favorite TV show characters have come from this series. King is the perfect mascot for a show like this, Luz is a refreshing main character who has some surprisingly deep moment, Eda is a great mentor who doesn’t succumb to the standard “Hero’s Journey” mentor story line, and that’s just the main three. Every single side character also feels like a treat when on screen and makes me want to watch every character based episode on repeat. The characters all have great interactions with each other and even funnier one liners
Funny Owl House Quote Break
- “All this mean spirited laughter has made me sleepy.” – King
- “A real man never takes accountability!” – Beefy Bob action figure
- “I will be haunted by my actions forever… Hoot Hoot” – Hooty (who is literally the owl house)
- “She can be so stupid! Which I love… I mean HATE!” – Amity
- “I’ve never actually broken any of your stupid laws! In front of you…” – Eda
All the fun character interactions, funny quotes, and humorous actions aside, the thing that gets me most about this show is the plot. For a Disney show this one is heavy. People get betrayed, families are separated and torn apart, people cry, people even die. I don’t want to spoil too much of the show as I feel strongly about the recommendation to watch this one, but there’s one moment during the “final showdown” where a grown man may be near tears.
If you’re looking for a show that has it all, I really say you’ve found it with this one. It’s deep, it’s funny, it’s sweet, it’s light but also dark, it’s a beautiful masterpiece of the cartoon era.
