Well folks, we’re finally here. Three years after the manga ending the anime gets one too. Three years ago is also when the last anime release was in the form of the “The First Kiss Never Ends” movie, so you may have forgotten what was going on. I’m not sure rewatching will help you, as much like School Rumble, which served as inspiration to Kaguya-sama, this special skips to the ending. Now as a manga reader I will tell you that the back half drops in quality compared to everything before, but there’s still some really good arcs. Unfortunately many of these are skipped with this approach, so I ask you to please go back and read from the beginning if you’ve enjoyed this series at all.

Now what did I think about the actual special? Well A-1 Pictures really brought their A-game for the chapters they did adapt. Not only did they fully capture the emotions, but they managed to use animation to turn the jokes up. This should come as no surprise, but it’s nice to see that even as the manga adaptation finishes they’re keeping things up. I’m sure for anime only watchers, this special brings some confusion, and manga readers may be a little upset. But overall I am very satisfied with this addition.

Verdict

Definitely Watch
